Mathew Devitt

Mat Devitt began his work at the Center as an undergraduate volunteer in 2001, working extensively with Dr. Patrick Lyons on the analysis of Salado polychrome ceramics. He finished his B.A. at the University of Arizona in 2005 and went on to complete his M.A. at the University of New Mexico in the fall of 2008. He has focused on museum collections as a researcher and as a curatorial assistant at the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In addition to southwestern ceramics, Mat is also interested in the evolution of technology, particularly in the context of the Bronze Age in the Mediterranean, and the use of modern technology as a means of public education.

Together with Doug Gann, Mat serves as the Center’s Digital Media Specialist, creating new media exhibits and public outreach. He is currently developing 3-D models for use in Google Earth as a means of creating a widely available, interactive history of the American Southwest.
