  Center for Desert Archaeology Membership Coordinator Position


The Center for Desert Archaeology is a private, nonprofit 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to promote the stewardship of archaeological and historical resources throughout the American Southwest and Mexican Northwest. The Center pursues its mission through a network of projects and initiatives that combine creative scholarly research with public outreach, education, and stewardship efforts.

The Membership Coordinator manages the acquisition and retention of Center for Desert Archaeology members and Annual Fund donors.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Membership Coordinator works with the Programs Manager to maintain and grow the Center's membership program (currently at 1,000 members) and Annual Fund, to ensure the member and donor database and related information are current at all times, to organize member-oriented special events, to generate appropriate correspondence and supplementary materials, to coordinate volunteer opportunities, and to build a solid base of community support for the organization.


PRIMARY DUTIES
  • Coordinates membership data information, maintains up-to-date membership computer records, sends out renewal notices, acknowledgements, and prints materials for mailings.
  • Coordinates marketing and communications related to membership, including the annual report, quarterly newsletter, website content, and events. Represents the Center at outreach events and/or trains volunteers to represent the Center at such events.
  • Organizes membership and Annual Fund renewal and acquisition mailings.
  • Prepares membership reports when needed for the President and the Board of Directors on membership and Annual Fund statistics.
  • Responds to phone/mail/email inquiries about the Center when appropriate and responds to requests for more information.
  • Manages the Center's volunteer program, maintains records of volunteer interests and participation, recruits volunteers and matches them to specific tasks.
  • Provides assistance and information to the President and Programs Manager to support their efforts to transform regular members and Annual Fund donors into major gifts donors (gifts of $1,000 and above).

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
  • Must be highly organized, detail oriented, balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of the team.
  • Demonstration of creativity and innovative thinking are a plus.
  • Pleasant, flexible personality, efficient phone manner, and good "people skills" are essential.
  • Strong English-language skills and writing ability required. Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Familiarity and fluency with a personal computer system is a must, especially with programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and Power Point.
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Some travel, weekend, and evening work required.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Programs Manager

OVERSEES: Volunteers

CLASSIFICATION: Fulltime, exempt

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Salary competitive and commensurate with experience. Benefits include health and 401(k) plans and sick and vacation time.
