Jeffery J. Clark, Preservation Archaeologist

Dr. Clark has spent much of the last decade working in the Tonto Basin of central Arizona. His research has focused on assessing the scale and impact of Classic period pueblo migrations in this region and elsewhere in southern and central Arizona. He is currently directing the excavation portion of the Center's San Pedro Archaeological Preservation Project. As part of this project, volunteers have been sampling midden deposits associated with many of the major Classic period sites in the northern half of the San Pedro valley. Nearly thirty sites have been tested to date. He is also a board member and co-chair of the education committee of the Arizona Archaeological and Historical Society. Dr. Clark received both his Ph.D. (1997) and M.A. (1990) from the University of Arizona and his B.A. (1983) from Cornell University. In addition to the American Southwest, he has worked extensively in Southwest Asia and has been involved with excavations in Israel, Syria, and Iraq.
